Polish Music Therapists Association
The Polish Music Therapists Association is the official body representing Polish music therapists home and abroad. The area of its activity covers the territory of the Republic of Poland and Karol Lipiński Music Academy building in the city of Wrocław is its Managing Board seat. The Association has status of a legal person, since it is registered in Wrocław Registry Court under KRS 0000026438 entry. The Association is a member of the European Music Therapy Federation, where it represents Polish music therapists community. Actually, it has 157 full members, 8 associate members and 3 honorary members. Mr Andrzej Janicki Ph.D. is a honorary president of the Association. The Association’s activity is based solely upon non-profit work of its members, it does not have any real estate or movables and maintains itself out of member contributions.
The Polish Music Therapists Association was brought to life in Wrocław on 21th May, 1996 by the teaching staff of General and Applied Music Therapy Department and music therapy studies alumni of Wrocław Music Academy. During the first two terms of its existence, the Chairman of the Association’s Managing Board was Andrzej Janicki Ph.D., those days the Chairman of Music Therapy Department of the mentioned above Academy. Currently, the Managing Board members are the following: Mr. Paweł Cylulko Ph.D. (chairman), Mrs. Helena Cesarz Ph.D. (deputy chairperson), Mrs. Danuta Szostak M. Sc. (secretary), Mrs. Maria Augustyn M.A. (treasurer), Mrs. Ewa Frydel-Jasińska Ph.D. (member), Mr. Maciej Kierył (member), Mrs. Agnieszka Szymajda M.A. (member and the Association representative at the European Music Therapy Federation). The Association bodies of authority are, among other: General Assembly of Members, Managing Board, General Audit Committee, General Arbitration by Fellow Members. Term of all music therapist organization bodies lasts three years.
The aim of the Association is, according to its statutes, the development and popularization of music therapy as a science and profession as well as participation of this science branch , according to humanistic values, in helping people to recuperate and keep healthy.
The music therapists organization gives its members theoretical and organizational support, helps in improvement of professional skills and participates in their training activities, at the same time encouraging them to do research and non-profit work on behalf of the Association. A membership in such an association gives its members a chance for improvement in their professional and research activity, exchange of ideas and experience with other professionals, improvement of professional skills. Therefore, the Association stands for music therapists business interests and tries to be a warranty for their professional and legal protection. It is done to enable Polish music therapists to find an employment not only at Polish but also at European and American work market.
In order to achieve its statutory aims, the Association disseminates music therapy related research achievements among therapists, musicians, physicians, psychologists, educators, rehabilitation professionals and other specialists working with children, youngsters and adults In various social settings, prepares national meetings, conferences, trainings, exhibitions, short music therapy related radio and TV broadcasts, etc. It also pronounces opinions on music therapy workshops and training programs organized by its members. The Association collaborates as well with educational and continuous education institutions in working out programs and methodology of music therapy teaching methods. It closely collaborates with the General and Applied Music Therapy Department of Music Academy in Wrocław and conducts editorial activity in the form of the research quarterly Muzykoterapia Polska (Polish Music Therapy). The Association does not have any business activity.
